The root of evil is the lack of empathy - the inability to see the "self" in others.

Not all with power are like this (thank goodnes!), but they are the only ones who can affect us. If a person lacks empathy but also lacks power, it doesn't really matter since he/she can't do anything.

Because it works for them and they do not see what it is doing to others (or they just don't care). It is sad, but that is the way it is. There is only a limited amount of people that don't care about themselves more than others. Most people will do anything to have more power than the rest of us.

They think they have the right to treat people like crap because there is no-one to report them to. They don't feel the consequences of their actions, so they act however they want to.

Because the people that are being treated like crap allow it to happen. People of all kinds allow themselves to be intimidated.

We are all responsible for teaching other people it's not okay to treat us a certain way. So, it would be up to me, if I were in that situation, to say, "Hey, that's not okay."

So, people in power do it because they can....because we let them.....

Because they like the feeling of ruling others. Perhaps they too were in similar situations where they were mistreated by those in authority. Now that they are in authority they realise it feels good to them but don't consider that how they once felt others now feel the same.

Because they are on a power-trip. They enjoy the feeling of empowerment and take it a little to far.

They are weak and want to feel powerful. But by acting this way they are in fact showing everyone how pathetic they are, and they don't realize everyone can see through it.

Because 'they can' simple as that.
They are weak in my opinion and the 'thought' never even crosses their mind.
I had a boss who treated his workers like slaves. We all left one after the other and he blamed US for it.
Some people just dont see.
Guess its human nature- the worst side.
