How good are the Strokes? Why aren't they more popular? Why are they so popular in the UK but not in the US? Will the Strokes go down as one of the best bands ever? Or will they be considered to be kind of a one hit wonder? Why do some people hate the Strokes?

Well, The Strokes r awesome! i love this band... Theyre not so popular cause not all the ppl are so cool as we (The Strokes lovers) are! Not everybody knows what good music really is! And ,also, they are one of those bands that people just either love or hate!

i started listening to the strokes after i became a fan of the Libertines, a post-punk garage rock band from Brit. they have pretty similar styles of music i must say, libertines i think has more punk quality in them. strokes have more garage/grunge value.
the fact that they are more popular in UK is probably bcoz the kind of music Strokes play is much more acceptable in Brit rather than US. i think ppl in US likes hiphop more than they like rock.
best band ever, i dont know. for me, it's already the best band i've discovered this year. last year was Nirvana, and now Strokes might take the position for this year.
one-hit wonder? which hit do u mean? Last Nite? for me, last nite is a very good and addictive song, but it's not fair to judge Strokes with just this song. there's a lot more to strokes than just 'last nite'. meanwhile that might be the best strokes song to some ppl, i think ppl should check out Reptilia, Razorblade, Heart in a Cage and Someday too. that's what i think. for me, they're no one-hit wonder.
the reason why some ppl hate the strokes, well, it's the same reason why some ppl hate Eminem. Strokes and Eminem can't please everyone. same goes to every single thing in the world; some will like it and some will not. mind you, i think Eminem is a good artist, but i'm just not into HipHop and Rap.
based on my xperience, ppl dont like strokes coz they sound too simple and repetitive. they also said that the songs make them want to 'sleep'. that's the opinion of the hiphop fans. for me, hiphop songs are repetitive too. and they talk of the same things over and over again.
but again, these are all matters of opinion.

in conclusion, Strokes is a great band. i'm looking forward to their 4th album, which i think should come out somewhere in 2008.

Alot of bands get popular in the UK and then eventually get more and more popular over here in the states. Just depends on how often they tour over here really. An calling them the greatest band of all time is a matter of opinion really.

The Strokes are a good band, but certainly not the best. They derive their sound from a hard-driving, post-punk, 4 chord repetition. Many bands have come before them & since with a cleaner, edgier and more unique sound.

UK tastes differ from US tastes in somethings (i know, i know tell tony blair that!)
maybe never
not a one hit wonder either
everyone can't love them (besides drew barrymore is irritating)
