It's pretty sad (and indicative of what our society has become) that in the five plus hours since this question was posted - no one has yet mentioned what it the best thing about Christmas. It happens to be the day we celebrate the first coming of Jesus Christ, Son of God, into our world. I love Christmas because I love Jesus and I am looking forward to His second coming.

All of the decorations on houses and in stores and at city hall. Some people really go all out. They look really cool against all of the snow. Since the sun sets at about 4:15 pm in my part of the world at that time of the year it really brightens up and cheers up the nights.
The special activities that the city and province put on to celebrate christmas. The lighting of the trees around the government buildings.
The fact that people really do some to be a little nicer and a bit more patient.
Its the perfect reason to get together with friends that you haven't seen in a while.
And all of those silly sappy Christmas specials on television.

Everything I love before Christmas day. The holiday specials, the carols, Christmas miracles, The commericals that you only see during Christmas. Decorations.I enjoy the whole season. Then comes Christmas day and everything seems blah after that.

I love the idea of giving the most about Christmas. I love to walk into the stores to buy gifts for people I love. It is not about the amount you spend but the thought put into the gift that makes it important. One of my favorite moments occurred last year when I was riding the escalator up to the Macy's third floor. I heard the Xmas music playing and saw all the lights, and noticed all the people bustling around the store. It then occurred to me that these people were not shopping for themselves, (as we think of every other time of the year) but they were taking the time to shop for the people they love!:) but all those people down there, were buying things for people they care about and love. Maybe they were buying a gift for a grandmother, or a new baby, or maybe...they were buying something for a charity giving tree. Christmas is one time of year that many people stop thinking about ME ME ME and focus on OTHERS....That's why it's my favorite time of year!

I love all the glitter and shiny lights. I love the songs and the
feeling of love in the air. I really love Christmas snow on Christmas eve. Snow makes the lights even more spectacular
and bright. I love the warm feelings I get inside when my child opens a present and gushes," Wow! Thanks mom!"

The anticipation of children. My own to be exact. They turn into angels the first of December. Decorating the house. The magic of Christmas Eve.
