I imagine that I could spend a million dollars in a week but I don't think that it would be easy to have nothing to show for it.

Absolutely, Good example is Warren Buffet giving Bill gates 40 billion dollars and him throwing it away in 3rd world countries instead of helping people right here who have seen a computer. There is damn sure nothing to show for that!!
One more idea is for you to get married. You won't have nothing left after your wife gets done.

Yes.. I would give $250 000 to my Mum and $250 000 to my husband's Mum and Dad.. Okay I would give some money to my Dad.. Set up a soup kitchen for the homeless and donate to Juvenile Diabetes 1 Research, and pay off our debts..

I could do that in a day. Buy a flash boat, set fire to it (just for fun) then park it near some rocks on a choppy sea.
