You should ask you doctor or pharmacist, they'll give you the best sun screen according to your skin type

It does not matter what color your skin is, you need protection from the suns harmful effects. Use a water proof sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 30. Shower with mild soap right after you swim to remove chlorine residue and sunscreen. Use a light moisturizer all over after. Don't forget to protect your hair, and ask the beauty supply store to recommend the right shampoo to make sure all the chlorine is washed from your hair. Condition well.

Make sure the sunscreen is waterproof and put it on at least 30 minutes before swimming. Any less than that and it will wash off. Also, get at least SPF 15. Copportone makes one that comes in a blue bottle. I think it is called Sport.

If your skin is chocolate, you don't need the same protection as a fair-skinned person. It's possible that you can swim without much harm from the sun, as long as you're not out there all day long.

as far as getting darker, the only prevention is staying indoors or completely cover up (clothing, hats, etc).....sunblock/sunscreen only block harmful rays & helps prevent burning.....if possible, lessons or any swimming, use an indoor pool.....completely out of the sun is the only measure you can take for total prtoection

I end up using my kids Coppertone in the pink bottle. I have tried others but thats the one I like the best. I'm fair skinned so I have to be careful. It has good coverage.

Neutrogena makes great sunscreens: try something with a SPF of 15 or greater.
