Religion seems to have always and still does despise and fear science, yet the will take every drop of scientific achievement and use it. However, now religion seems to want to water down science with faith. Why would religion try to sabotage science? I'm not saying that science is a pure fella either but I don't see scientists outside churches saying "Teach Evolution in Church".

Gninja if that is true it is because science was already hated by religion.

practice I agree but there are limits. If parents want kids to learn stuff like 2+2=35 and "something somewhere made everything and no way to ever know what, how or why" as explination of life then i would tell them to homeschool kid

Quinn I like your answer but have to point out that 1. evolution has nothing to do with orgin of life and 2. there is NO proof at all of creationism (at least scientific proof). 3 Science has never said evolution is anything but theory but best we have now and that creationism+intelligent design are hypothesis since backed by no real evidence

My Two Cents::I can see that since from what I see religious people want to stomp out science and like they say.."for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction"

Fear, primarily.

The goal of Science is to discover things as yet undiscovered. Religion is founded upon the belief that things unknown are God's work.

As such, Organized Religion is afraid that be learning and discovering the truth, their faith will be dismissed (or even proven to be wrong)

Case in point with Evolution. To believe in Evolution, or that Man has been around a LOT longer than 6,000 years, and evolved over millennia, is to say that what is written in the Bible is incorrect.

Now, waitasec... if something in the Bible is incorrect, does that mean that there are potentially OTHER parts that are incorrect?

Yesirree Bob, it does.

This is why Organized Religion actively and vocally disparages Scientific Theory as, well, just Theory (like that's a bad thing... Gravity is a Theory, and I'm still stuck to the ground. Could be God though... not sure) and then coming up with an alternative excuse like Intelligent Design and garbage like that.

So, again... it's fear... it's fear by the leaders of various religions that their money-train will stop coming in... that their life has been spent worshipping something that doesn't exist... and that they had the wool pulled over their eyes by some profiteers who lived several centuries ago.

Because great scientist (like Enstein) and great philosophers posed questions that Religion cannot answer!

"Reason, observation and Experience - the Holy Trinity of Science" Robert Ingersoll, American philosopher & Lawyer

"Science has proof without any certainty. Creationist have certainty withour any proof" Ashley Montague, Ph.D; D.Sc; D.Litt

"Man masters Nature not by force but by understanding. This is why Science has succeeded where magic failed: because Science has looked for no spell to cast on Nature"
Jacob Bronousk, British mathematician & historian

"There is no god higher than truth" Mahatma Ghandi

" Ceding our faith in reason to the authorities of either the church or the state is neither a rational nor an ethical option"
Baruch Spinoza, Portuguese Jewish philosopher

Note: Spinoza advocated tolerance, freedom and democracy and was very much against religious intolerance. This was 350 years ago!

Fast forward to 2006..same scenerio, if not worse. Mass murder of innocent humans in the thousands because of religious/political differences. The killings will continue when one particular group stands on religious/moral high ground and proclaim that its god IS the only "true god" and all the rest (including atheists) are "sinners". Don't forget there are billions of believers in hundreds of other different religions on planet Earth!

Sorry, I digress from the topic "god vs Science"! Obviously I am pro-evolution! May all the gods forgive me for speaking the Truth!

Religion and science do not contradict each other. In fact, most scientific discoveries have biblical bases. Even in archaeology biblical accounts are being supported by new evidences emerging.

Now, the perception of religion and science conflicting each other has basically started with Darwin's theory of evolution. Remember Darwin's theory remains to be a theory and not a scientific fact.

I am a Christian dan LOVE science. Informed Christians use science to prove creationism and the resurrection. I think there are many Christians who shy away because they think the science and faith do not mix. I disagree. If you are a Christian then you know the God made the earth---so there is nothing to threaten your belief. Also, many are not educated enough to combat the sciencific arguments that oppose God. A Christian is commanded to have an answer for everyman. Christians need to study up more creationism. There is MORE proof of that than evolution. Why do we seem to forget that evolution is only a theory and has never been proven?

Religion and science do not hate each other. In fact most evolutionists, set out as atheists to disprove God by science. What actually happened is they found out that God was real and that evolution theories have too many holes, and is not real. Science knowledge has come from God. There is always an ethical line with anything. All things can be used for good or for bad. The simple truth is that God gives us everything for the good of us and Satan tries to take all that is good and use it for bad to hurt and destroy humanity.

Because Science hates Religion.
------

Actually, more seriously. Not all folks who you would call religious hate science. There are plenty of things that science is still unable to prove.

Like, where did the big bang come from?
(Or, where did matter come from?)

------

Also, science goes alot on faith more then many scientest would like people to believe.

For example: Many scientest (not all) believe in evolution. However, evolution has never been proven. They just base it on what they see and come to the conclusion and then the believe it and accept it on faith... But they can't prove it any better then Christians can prove creationism.

The two sides: Science & Religion "hate each other" because people hate when other people think differntly then they do.

I find more scientest types that want to stomp out people who are religious in the name of peace then religious people who want to stomp out science. (Thout there are some religious people who definately do.) Religious people tend to hate other religious people of differnt beliefs more then they do scientest.

It's the scientest that want to stomp out all religion in the name of peace. But then the religious people get upset that the scientest want to impose THEIR BELIEFs on the relgious people.

Its because science contradicts many religious beliefts, just for example the story of creation of man which is being contradicted by the theory of evolution by Darwin. When there is contradiction between the two, one will prove that what he believes is correct and the other is wrong..etc... thats what happened to religion and science.

I made a website you might like to visit, "The Hare Krishna Views On Science". There are many things on science, what is beyond science, the devolution theory, scientific coverups, genetic degeneration etc.

Type in and visit "bhaktivedanta108" the first site in the google result.

Chant Hare Krishna and be happy.

Why does science hate religion?

Darwin was caught more than once aging bones and was disproved back in the 70's, when carbon-dating was introduced.
The mans theories should have died with him but some lame-brains still insist he's a recognised/proved scientist!
Not 2 me he's just another crack pot who didn't like the idea of creation!

I am not all that sure religion is against science as Islam will use science to show that only God could of given the words of the Qu'ran as somethings in there were not even known to man until after science.
Here is a web site where a scientiest is stating this exact thing.
