Are you breastfeeding? If you are, no alarm. Check the stools, it looks like a pool of light yellow with little mustard seeds-like stuff, which is slightly whitish.
For breastfed baby, their bowels will be quite explosive, with loud noise, but it is not foul smelling. It is slightly sweet smelling...You can easily identify if it is diarrhea. If he is moving bowels often, it is a good indication that he is getting enough...
Infant is only 5 days old, and if you have properly sterilized his bottles, if he is bottle-fed, then you should not worry too much..
But if you are not sure, go to the pediatrician, but make sure you keep one of the soiled diapers so that you could show.

An infant's stools are not "solid". Breastfed baby stools are runny and a light to gold yellow color with no odor.
If you are not breastfeeding---then GET STARTED--it's not too late! Formula is simply inferior and tough on babies. It is difficult to digest, expensive and a big pain to mess with.
After you call your doctor, call the hospital and ask to talk to the lactation consultant!!

if your son is breastfeeding-his stools will be loose and seedy for the first couple of weeks.
it's usually a light brown color and it looks like it has seeds in it-it's from the colostrum that you are feeding him (this is what breast milk consists of the first week or two)
but if his stool is coming out like water then he needs to be seen by a doctor within 24 hours-no exceptions.
babies dehydrate very quickly and since he's such a new one-his risk is much greater!!!

I'm not a mother but when my brother had bad toilet at that age my Nan said feed him more mashed up solid food and less drink , he just needed a change of diet.
If your still not sure take him down to see the doctor. It's most likely not going to be serious.
I hope that helped.

No it is not normal. Unless you are thinking that very loose stool is not normal. Newborn do not poop treds. They poop mushy stuff.
If is is like water you need to take him to his doctor or even to a children's hospital.
Chances are then that he cannot tolerate the kind of formula that he is on. My oldest was like that and it took a few different kinds but we found on to work.
Good luck to you
