well, since they already are, i think they shouldnt be. the united states is not supposed to "police" the world on its own. that's the job of the UN. opposite to what rumsfeld thought, the US was not welcomed into iraq as liberators but only as invaders.
and now look at iraq, civilians are dying, troops (iraqi and american) are being killed, and the country as erupted into a civil war. the US military did not have a clear cut plan of reconstruction and it has been a total failure.
i supported the invasion of afghanistan to find al qaeda and osama. however, i do not agree with the invasion of iraq. no WMDs were ever found, saddam didn't have connections to al qaeda, and saddam never tried to acquire uranium from niger. it was a bunch of nonsense to gain popular support to invade iraq and it has costed people their lives.
bottom line, the invasion was a mistake and highly unnecessary. the US government has not only lied to its own people, but the rest of the world. and that is one reason why the entire world hates the US right now.

We dp not want to occupy them. If the Iranians and the idiots of the so called insurgency would start acting civilized we would be mostly out of there in a hurry.

Not for long. We are there now but opposition to the war is growing. The president lied us into this war and people are waking up to that fact. The military is overloaded soldiers and materila are strechted to the limit They are desperately trying to avoid a draft or raising taxes to pay for their war. Something is going to break.
The people will have to put their collective foot down.

america already occupies iraq. i don't think iraq will be completely controlled, so to me i think america needs to leave iraq and let them take care of themselves. iraq doesn't want us there anyway.

Yes they can. We have two choices here, one is to continue to pretend that the Iraqi poeple want peace and can live in harmony with thier fellow tribes....or two wake up and realize that in order to really occupy another country you have to be ruthless.
