I'm not sure if it's the car or what, but when i use the cruise it seems like it has a difficult time keeping a consistant speed. it's like it will slow down and then speed back up, and sometimes it won't even work. what is up with that? After awhile it works fine. It usually does this when it gets really cold.

It's a 5 speed. And sometimes it works just fine. This summer has been really hot, about 100 degrees everyday but last night it rained and the temperature drop to about 60, could that have anything to do with it?

sounds like u need to take it to a dealer for more than likley a couple of problems as far as the speed not stayin the say could be a vss(vehicle speed sensor) problem or an actuator problem since that model honda used an electric cruise unit...as for it not working sometimes sounds like a bad brake light switch....do u have trouble getting it out of park sometimes? that also can be the brake light switch

I don't know specifically about the 2000 Accord but many cruise control systems use vacuum to control the throttle. If a vacuum line is cracked, it will leak and not be able to hold vacuum well. I had this problem on an older Audi and it went away when I replaced a $2 rubber hose (the dealer wanted $200 to repair it!).

I don't know how mechanical you are, but if you can lift the hood and find the vacuum solenoid that controls the throttle when the cruise control is used, check the vacuum line for any cracks or leaks. It's just a small rubber hose and it's very easy to replace.
