Because he likes you. Why not be phone and internet friends? There's alot to conversation that just doesn't translate well in typing.

I think he is keeping it maybe because He likes you { as a friend or maybe more} and looks forward to the opportunity to speak to you on the phone sometime.
Don't try to make him delete your number. The more you make a fuss about it I bet the more determined he might be to keep the number or it might even cause tension between you two and that might mean good bye messenger chats. There is nothing wrong with him being in possession of your number though. Chill.

Looks like it's getting to you...Maybe, that's what he wants.
You gave him the number because you trusted him and then you asked him to destroy it. It's possible he wants to make you squirm because you hurt his feelings asking him to delete it. Even if he didn't get his feelings hurt or anything like that, he may just like the fact it bothers you...You said he isn't abusing it, so why are you concerned he has it? I'd just let it go unless he starts abusing it or unless there's more to the story. Are you afraid someone will find your number that shouldn't...wife, girlfriend, etc.
It doesn't really matter since you'll never know whether he deleted it or not for sure. Might as well let it go.

Well, gosh, maybe he likes you and would like to actually speak to you on the phone one of these days. Or maybe he's worried that your or his internet will be cut off in the future and is keeping your number just in case. Or maybe he's just jerking your chain and has already deleted your number. Or maybe he wrote your number down on a piece of paper (what a concept!) and doesn't know how to "delete" it.

It sounds like he might like you, maybe as just a friend & maybe a little more. If you have a reason to not trust him, then you should worry, but if not, then I see no reason why the two of you shouldn't have the joy of carrying on both on-line and phone conversations. There's a lot that's difficult to convey on the net, but much easier to say in person. Ask your friend for more information about him if you are unsure.

What difference does it make? You were happy for him to have the number if you thought you couldn't communicate with him any other way, so does it matter if he still has it and doesn't use it?
Its certainly rude, and probably pointless but maybe he just wants to fill up his address book...?

Maybe he just likes you. If he's not stalking you or anything or abusing the use of your number, then don't make it an issue. Just forget about it, in time, he might too.

maybe he is playing around with you, trying to see if you're gonna give in.
just don't mind him when he communicates you in your number, ignore him completely and just act normal when you talk over the net.
that way he'll get the message across that you don't want any other communication than the net.
