You can buy a box of cat repellent pepper dust, which helps keep cats and vermin away (no more than a fiver from your local Homebase or B&Q). Simply sprinkle a bit along your pathway.

Or, yes, those electronic cat scarer devices that sit on your path, and emit a high pitched squeal when the cat comes within range. Cost around £20. Sort-of works, but not ideal on your path as you will walk there often, and it begins to be a pain when that device keeps going off (you can hear it too, and yes the noise does get annoying for you too)!

....but its amusing watching passers by, looking all around, as they think they have a loud screaching sound in their heads, and don't know whwre the sound is coming from! haha.

You can get an anti-cat device. I'm not sure exactly what it does (presumably is not deadly!), but I happened to glance at it yesterday in the Argos catalogue.

Alternatively, pop orange peel down on your path. Cats hate the smell of citrus.

Try spraying ammonia on the path after you have cleaned it. Also moth balls or flakes around the path may help. Best bet get a live trap and then take it to the SPCA

Apart from having a friendly chat with the owner if you know them, whilst returning their cats poo in a clear plastic bag, preferably still warm!

Then when the puddy- tat comes back how about a CAT-APALT???

buy a dog and make it sit on the path! you might have to pick the dead cat up off the path though!

Pour ammonia on it. Ammonia keeps cats away. I had a problem with them getting into my trash. An elderly neighbor told me before I tie the bags shut to pour ammonia in the bag. It worked.

stick its nose in it - it will never poo there again! but he may well want to poo closer to your door or inside your house for revenge.
