I would say to a great extent many of us are becoming slaves of consumerism, which is not quite the same thing. If someone had told me perhaps as recently as 10 years ago, and certainly 20 years ago how much money I'd be earning today I would have figured that I'd be rich and I'm certainly far from it. The number of things such as consumer electronics and other luxury items that we all seem to feel that we cannot do without is staggering.

we are not slaves of capitalism. We are slaves of our greed and vanity. People work hard for the betterment of quality of life. But then question as you have rightfully asked are we living the life?. Longtime ago there was statement in Readers Digest that Japan prospers but Japanese do not (This is not to ridicule anybody but just a reference to the subject of the question).

Yes. Walmart wants a store no further than 6 miles from anyone's home. Everywhere you look, some one is trying to sell you something you don't need. We just use each other to live, no matter the cost. People are walking advertisements. Be careful who you support.

It depends on what you think you are. As for me, i don't consider myself slave of capitalism, i don't care. Ask yourself, do you care, do you feel like a puppet?? Everything is a question of point of view.

Yeah, we are slaves to working for a living.
If only someone would give us the money to live or just give us food and stuff for free.
That would be great.
But who would be stupid enough to do the work to provide us with that, while we sit on our @sses and play video games?
No Capitalist, that's for sure.

Actually, I think Capitalism is really our slave. It does exactly what we –Â collectively – want it to. And we have no one but ourselves to blame for its excesses and absurdities.

Yeah right, we determine our destiny.
We decide what we want to buy and the "captains of industry" meet our demand by giving us what we want.
