I think that they just realized that their existance in the Middle East will not last for much longer.
Occupation, oppretion and murder are not a way of living. It just does not make for a "state"

The Israeli government has to be partially satisfied in that they were able to re-invade a country they occupied for fifteen years and destroy large parts of their infrastructure as the world watched. Hezbollah is a lot like Al-Qiada in that they were both formed to fight a resistance, once there purpose achieved the governments had little or no use for them other than the fact they became a force. With military and political power these groups still seek change and recognition as they will never dissolve no matter how weak the country that supports them, their will always be party's interested funding such organizations. Israeli regret may lie in the fact that Hezbollah is now a internationally recognized political party or faction. They now have a voice and will be heard.

Yes, the regret is, as is mine, that the operation didn't continue further, and that the Hezbullah leadership was not captured or eliminated (yet!). That day will come soon, though.
Hezbullah is a Lebanese Shi'ite Islamist terrorist organization. Founded in southern Lebanon in 1982 as a response to Israel's invasion there, its original goals were to drive Israeli troops out of Lebanon and form a Shi'ite Islamic republic similar to that created by the Iranian revolution of 1979. It is now intent on terrorising Israel. It is supported by Syria and Iran. Israel has left Lebanon in 2000, and since Hezbullah, with the help of Iran, has amassed munition and missiles they are now using against Israel.
Lebanon has been occupied and controlled by Syria for decades. The beautiful Lebanon, the French Riviera of the Middle East was destroyed in the Lebanese civil war in the 60's and 70's. The Christian minority that ruled Lebanon and brought it to its splendor has been overtaken by the vilolent Islamic extremists.
Hezbollah is accepted in parts of Lebanon because the population truly has absolutely no say and no choice in the matter. If you oppose Hezbollah, you die. The Lebanese Prime Minister Harriri was assassinated for opposing the Syrian occupation. The current Lebanese government is helpless.
Lets address how the current situation began:
BUT FOR Hezbollah going on Israeli soil, killing 8 and kidnapping 2 Israeli soldiers, Israel would not have been on the offensive to destory Hezbollah. This is not a war on Lebanon. It is a war on Hezbollah and its backers (Syria and Iran). Since the Lebanese army that numbers about 150,000 soldiers is unwilling and/or unable to remove Hezbollah's 5,000 terrorists, Israel will.
Israel wants peace and recognition of its existence. The Muslim extremists, including Syria and Iran regimes want Israel wiped off the face of the earth, and have repeatedly said so. Israel has absolutely no interest in claiming Lebanon, or any other Arab country.
The Muslim world has missed every opportunity to make peace with Israel. When a Muslim country and brave leader did make peace with Israel (the late Egyptian President Anwar al-Sadat), he was assassinated by Iranian-backed group.
Unfortunately for the modern world, the Muslims have been conditioned by their dictatorial regimes to have one thought, the same as the regime. There is no spectrum of opinions in the Muslim world, there is no freedom of expression, freedom of thought, freedom to live life freely (exception is in Turkey).
It's time for Muslims to take accountability for their religion and culture. Stop spinning, and address the fact that the Muslim culture is one of the most oppressive and violent cultures, against its own people, and certainly against other cultures.
For those who believe that the extremist element in Islam is small, the numbers are staggering. There are 1.2 billion Muslims in this world. Lets take a very liberal view that only a very small percentage of Muslims are exterme, while the rest of the Muslim world is very peaceful. So if only 10% of Muslims have extreme point of views, and may be a threat, and must be dealt with, meaning dealing with 120 million Muslims! How about 1%? Then you must deal with 12 million Muslims. How about 1/10 of a percent? Then you must deal with 1.2 million Muslims. The numbers are staggering! How do you propose dealing with even the "very low" figures of 1.2 million Muslim extremists?
It would be to the benefit of Lebanon, Israel, the Middle East, and the World to rid of Hezbollah, Hamas, the Syrian and Iranian regime. It must be done to finally have a chance for peace in the region and the world.

uncomfortable, yes but sure he does not regret any of his actions when it comes to killing civilians or destroying a whole country. maybe regrets for failing, for loosing, for not having more time to kill and destroy a little more, regrets for accepting to stop military actions, regrets for he forgot some bridges, and roads. I heard some of their army are sent to prison because they had regrets for killing civilians, or for hitting roads and not the civilians on these roads...we will hear a lot during the coming week. let us wait and see.
