Press F8 when booting and choose the option to boot from the last known good configuration or in safe mode. Or use the XP CD to make a repair. Pop it in, reboot, and follow the instructions. As they said, check the cables. I typically get these when overclocking. Don't reinstall without trying these options if you really want to keep that OS up.

make sure you have no disks in your CD or floppy drive, then reset. If it still does it, then your Master boot record is probably screwed. And unless you want to be typing at a command prompt for an hour or so, you'd probably want to break out the emergency restore disks, and restart your computer with that disk inside.

It is not recognizing your hard drive. That same message came up on my kids computer, when the hard drive gat fried.
1. First of all go into the bios and see if the hard drive is recognized there.
2. if not, open the system up and check that all the cables are connected to the motherboard, and hard drive
3. If that is good, then you probably have a bad hard drive.

Make sure that you do not have any floppies or CD's in the computer and disconnect any external hard drives.
If that does not work, check inside of your computer for loose cables. Your IDE cable could be slightly loose and would need to be pushed back in.
If that does not fix it, you will probably have to resintall Windows.
