during a recent matter at work my union rep did not return calls and this resulted in me missing an appeal deadline and as it was costing me over £10 per month, I feel they have failed to deliver.

Tell them to shove their membership where the sun "don't" shine and stop paying your subs. Expect some IMMEDIATE attention from that point on!
