Get a degree in a hard science like Engineering or Physics. Then join the military and become a pilot. Once you have become a pilot, you can apply for training as a test pilot. Following that, you can apply to NASA to become an astronaut.

From many of the astronauts I have met or heard speak, they have all said the same thing. Pick something that you want to do. That you like to do. And do it "very" well. Be the best you can be at it. And hopefully that "thing" will coincide with the space program and you can apply.

The other option is to be a fighter jet pilot or a submarine commander. Those people tend to be frequent in the space program.

Before you consider a career as an astronaut, you better be in tip top physical condition. Because brains without excellent health will get you no wheres in this field. In outer sapace, the conditions can wreck havoc on a human body, and there are NO hospitals tyo treat you in outer space.
