when you immerse an object into a liquid, then the amount of liquid displaced is equal to the weight of the object immersed-this is the archi... principle.
take a glass cup and fill it with water till the brim/edge. now immerse an object, for example-a stone, completely into the cup.this will cause water to flow out of the cup as it is already full with water.collect the water that flows out. make sure that you collect all tha water that flows out.now if you calculate the volume of the water you have collected, you will find that it is equal to the volume of the stone[which you have immersed]in air. to find the volume of the stone in air, use a spring-balance.
you can see this take place in a swimming pool too.
