That's deep. Ginger was named after her hair colour and the rest by their spice of life.

Good one! I wonder how the public would've reacted to:
Paprika Spice
Parsley Spice
Saffron Spice
Garlic Spice

It happened on Top of The Pops one night. The presenter wasn't sure of their names or who was who, so came up with 'cute' descriptive names instead. Thus Geri became 'Ginger' because of her hair, Emma became 'Baby' because of her age and style of dress, Mel C was 'Sporty' because she always wore Addidas clothing, Mel B was 'Scary' because, well, she is, and Victoria became 'Posh' because of how she always dressed and pouted (Stroppy Spice might have been more appropriate). The names were loved by many and radio stations adopted them, so they began to stick. It had nothing to do with actual spices!

My guess is to help people identify with them easier. All musical groups like that always appear to have a personality for everyone: the smart one, the jock, the bad-boy/girl, and the baby-faced/young one. Most groups don't go so far as to name each member after their "personality" though.

The blonde was the baby of the group, Posh because she dressed and acted posh compared to the rest of them. Sporty because of her athletic abilities, and she liked to dress in sporty clothes, and last but not least, Scary. Scary because of her wild hair, looks and dress sense. OK

Because their "spice" wasn't nearly as satisfying and delicious as nutmeg, cinnamon or coriander! I know what I'm talking about because I'm "Old Spice"....lol!!!
