Sounds like you have some sort of driver issue! I had the same problem about a month ago, until I went through and checked that all my drivers were digitally signed by Microsoft. It turned out to be the driver for my Netgear wireless adapter. It had known issues with SP2. Anytime that I install new hardware, I don't use the install disk. Usually, you can go to the manufacturer's website to download drivers that are Windows Hardware Compatability Published. I sent error report after report to Microsoft, and they kept telling me that it was the drivers for my video card or that it was bad. After updating every driver, I've had no problems at all!!
Another thing that I read on here, was that sometimes a video card error report from Microsoft can also be confused with your ROM going bad.
Don't try to disable the restart on error, all that will do is give you "the blue screen of death" Compaq told me to try that, and that's all I got. Seriously, before you go out and spend a bunch of money,CHECK YOUR DRIVERS!!!!!

The issue can occur for various reasons. First step would be disabling the Automatic Shutdown feature of XP
Start, right-click the My Computer icon ->Properties -> Advanced tab -> Settings in the Startup & Recovery section - > Uncheck Automatically Restart under System Failure.
Also uninstall - reinstall Power Management utility
If issue persists, contact PC manufacturer for updated BIOS....

1. It may be an issue with a virus. Make sure that your anti-virus program is up-to-date, then run a complete scan of your computer.
2. You may have a problem with the fan or heat sync on your computer. The computer may get too hot, and it shuts down. I would call the manufacturer or retailer where you bought the computer from.
3. It may be a faulty power button. I would contact technical support for futher assistance.
4. It may be a motherboard issue, and may need to be replaced Contact technical support.

There could be a whole bunch of reasons for this... it used to happen to me too, and I found out in th end that it was the computer was overheating, and when it does so, the computer is programed to restart (in some cases shut down), so you should probably check that out in the BIOS... if it is so, you will need an extra/better fan for your computer... if not there probably is some conflicting programs

previous answers are all possibilities, but please try to look and see if the plastic from your power cord is not too thick to go all the way into you power supply. this can happen from new computers, with extra plastic bits stuck on the cord, and any little vibration resets the power connection. solve by shaving the extra plastic burrs off with a knife, but unplug it first.
