Tell her that she is a good friend, but not your girlfriend, and that you are looking for s girlfriend. When you go out make sure its with a bunch of guys and gals, and not just the two of you.

Well if i was in the same situation if i was your friend, I'd want you to be as honest as you can, especially if your good friends, just tell her how you feel it may hurt her in the beginning but in the long run she'll appreciate you more for being hones, and that's how true friends treat each other, she will realise by you being hones your giving her the respect she deserves.

Just tell her that you love her as a friend and that dating will change the nature of the relationship and you don't want anything to ruin the wonderful friendship that you have.
She'll translate that into the fact that you aren't interested in dating her but she can keep her pride and you won't have hurt her feelings.
The friendship will endure.

I assume she wants to date you? 'Cause otherwise, it wouldn't be a problem. I guess you have to sit her down and give her the "Let's be friends" speech...and you don't wish to spoil your friendship by a romantic encounter (which is true). I hope she understands. Make sure you include some of the reasons you like her...and how much you treasure your friendship with her. I hope this helps.

Claim you're going on 'a date' but you're willing to go to the cinema with her the next night?

Or be honest, and tell her the truth

Or pack up your life and skip the country.

"I can't go out with you. You are my friend, but not my darling.."

Sums it up pretty well.
