Hi im a orthopaedic plaster technician in the uk it could be a number off things, inflammation to the patalla which is the knee joint, ligaments around the patella or it could be arthritis setting in.Have you recently injured your patella recently ? If so it may be to do with the injury, you need to see your GP and he will examine you and probably give you inflammatry pills or refer you to the orthopaedic consultant.Good Luck.

If your knee is quite swollen and red and hot, could be linked to rhematism, maybe a cartlidge problem. Trying applying something cold to it and see if it helps or try some Ibuleve failing that go to your GP and get it checked. I suffer with Arthritis I know how it feels. Hope you get it sorted.
