Since you've posted this in the Tulum section - I will say that the Caribbean coast from Cancun south to Tulum is very nice. I haven't been south of Tulum but I understand that is very nice as well. Cancun is very built up - high rise hotels and such. It's a big party destination for younger people.
The further south you get towards Tulum the more laid back it gets. But, generally speaking the Caribbean coast is pricey area.
Playa del Carmen is about mid-way between Cancun and Tulum, also a nice area, you can catch the ferry to Cozumel there.

go to morelia its a good place and i would walk thats the cheapest ( cause of the gas) but flyin is kool to
