you may also try ruffles by the yard. its usually sold in fabric/craft stores...walmart may even have some. Its pre-ruffled, so all u have to do is sew it in =)

There are a few ways. You can baste stitch (I use the largest straight setting on my sewing machine) then pull the string until you create gathers on the fabric and sew over the gathers. You could also purchase a gathering foot for your sewing machine as well. What I do is sew a very big zig-zag pattern over a piece of string and arrange the fabric on the string while pulling on it until I have an even gather then I sew my permanent stitch on top of the gathers.
