yes.....even though for instance you ignored or suppressed your grief and havent actually dealt with it,it may haunt you as a grief, and sometimes it may be manifested in your future dealings inlife.you might not act the same way towards a person or an incident because there is that grief lingering in your heart.
you must face it.then and only then will it heal.until it will be just a memory.no more sting

Denying it can be very helpful to prevent being overwhelmed by it at the time of impact. What we deny to the conscious mind can be triggered later, because the subconscious never forgets. I don't like the word 'haunt' because "later" may really be the time when one IS ready to face it. Most people would say it is good to accept the feeling you have, whatever it is, as truly you.... though not always to express it ie you don't have to shout at someone just because you feel angry. Treat yourself also with respect and express your grief in a way that feels safe to you, not necessarily the way others think you should.

denial stage is the first stage a person goes thru when in grief. normally, a person will just keep on denying that he/she is grieving. he/she might even think that everything is alright and acts as if nothing happened. but when reality catches up with them, they will feel all the emotions they keep on denying. though it is normal for someone to go through that stage, it is seldom healthy. it is still better accept the facts so you will heal more easily. accepting the grief will serve as a wake-up call and finally opening up to reality. we can not blame people who tend to repress their emotions, instead we can help them deal with the depression, grief, anxiety, sadness they are going through

Yes repressing these feeling is by a mechanism to conceal your feeling and in a period of time the repressed feelings may lead to unforeseen mental problems.
