Are they too big or hard for him to eat? He has eaten one before, but today he kept putting it in his mouth and then spitting it out. Maybe he wasn't hungry? Does anyone else feed their goldfish goldfsih shaped pellets? They are made by Tetra.

It could be one of several reasons. Sometimes it takes a while for fish to get used to different flavors and shapes. It could be that the texture is off or they don't like the taste. Give your guy some time. If there continues to be a problem just grind them lightly in a pill crusher. My last goldfish was a real stinker and would spit things out then gobble them up later when they'd become mushy.

Some species of fish will spit out their food before eating it if you watch your fish for a while after feeding it you would probably see it eat the pellet

Try soaking the pellet in some water before you drop it in the tank. It may be too big for him to eat while it is hard. Once it gets soft, he may surprise you by chomping it down.

I soak some of the food I give my fish. It just makes it easier on their little digestive systems when it is soft to begin with. The only fish I give hard pellets to are my 6-7" African cichlids. They are big enough to crunch them up with no problems.

Sometimes fish just spit food out.
It could be a sign that he is not hungry or that he is constipated. If he looks a little bloated that may be your problem. You may need to give him fiber.

Betta are carnivores, whilst gold fish are omnivore with a call for vegetables. additionally betta foodstuff is designed to glide, whilst a goldfish foodstuff ought to sink to the midsection. So a foodstuff good for the betta is undesirable for goldfish.

i have a goldfish and i don't feed it with something that looks like it.

if goldfish got any brains, then they must have thought they are eating their own kind, hahaha. so rather not eat it at all.

try to feed with with other fish food so that your fish can eat, otherwise, it's gonna starve to death.
