First you should have a tape player that provides a line output (you can use the headphone output too). Now, make or buy a cable (MUST be shielded) with the proper connectors for the cassete player's output and the "Line In" input on your soundcard. Use a stereo cable if the cassete player is stereo, otherwise lik together the two channels of the "Line In" input. Connect the cable, start the cassete player and listen the signal in the computer spakers; if you don't hear it, check if the "Line In" source of your "Volume Control" isn't muted or the slider isn't put on the minimum position. Once you can haer the signal from your cassete player, you can record that using a sound recording program ("Sound Recorder" will do it, but, if you want to make MP3s, I advise you to use "AudioGrabber" (it's free and can realize almost profesional recordings.

using some softwares like jetaudio is better, but before software, you have to check the connections, you need a cable to connect from your "cassete player" to "line in" in your sound card, its same as the cable used to connect headphones, but it has the same connector on both sides, now when you connected it, you can record using windows sound recorder, for small files, or you can use jetaudio for long files.

Check the plugs.
If you have a 'Line In" then look on the cassette player. Check to see if it has a 'Line Out"
Re the PC. Do you have software? Do you have a PC or a Mac? What's up with that?
