I have seen one from a plane. No photo sorry.

The sun must be directly behind you to see a rainbow - if it was not, what you saw was some other phenomenon. A rainbow is caused by double refraction and this inevitably casts light back towards its source, not forwards.

You can't see more than three dimensions...

But yeah, you could see this under the right conditions. I once saw it from an airplane. Looking out and down at a layer of clouds below (not very far below the plane) I could see the shadow of the plane, and the rainbow surrounding the shadow.

Wow, the first time you noted a rainbow?! it is rather neat.. Rainbows are acceptable! i have considered particularly some, yet I shop in ideas seeing one once with the brightest band of colorations i have ever considered, and it become proper over my residing house. :D i imagine a rainbow is a grin from God and a demonstration that there is continually a the following day. they could particularly carry your spirits. :)

yes
i have seen round rainbows. sorry no photos. from an airplane and also from standing with my garden hose and setting it to mist.

my question is this...is the rainbow round because the sun is round or the earth?
or what?

Probably a halo or another atmospherical optical phenomena - rather than a rainbow.
