No not afraid, Terry V is just using his mouthpiece in Steve Maclaren. I thought it was funny how SM said at the press conference how it was a new era and a new team....looks like exactly the same team minus DB. But when the Chelski lineup of Lampard, Terry, etc loose it like they did yesterday to Liverpool, at least we wont hear now how it is all DB's fault

There's two answers to this - either way I don't think he's scared of him:

Beckham is getting on (relatively) for an international player and is losing his pace - and realistically scored just one goal at the world cup (but had two assists) so therefore bringing in younger players (James is out as well, amongst others) seems sensible as England are not performing as well as our talent dictates they should.

McClaren wants to immediately enforce his "I'm in charge" position. Dropping Beckham will send a few shockwaves around the camp, and also pulling Venables in and the controversial sports psychologist (name forgotten) means he's instantly stamped his own mark on the squad. I'm glad ge gave Terry captainship - he is a far better captain than Beckham anyway. (And I don't support Chelsea by the way - Brighton, so I really shouldn't know *anything* about football.) :)

this is a friendly, beckam is not fit, he is 32 nearing the end of his career maclaren is giving a few young lions a chance to show what they can do. sven was a ***** who kept picking the big name players rather than players who maybe more deserved a spot. we have not seen the last of beckam.

Afraid of what? Hes just got the balls to say "David, your more of a celebrity and a model than a football player"

Everyone goes "Awww yeah but what about that goal back in 1995...." GET OVER IT!!!!! HE HAD HIS DAY. Hes done nothing of any benefit for ages. How many goals did this so called wonder boy score in the world cup? One I think.

Its like all this rubbish about George best being the best football player ever, he WAS but has since been eclipsed by so many.

Oh well, who know? Maybe he's intimidated by his celebrity status.. Or, he wants a fresh player to lead the English team. Anyhow, I wish England the best for the EURO.
