Good location with plenty of possible daytrips from there. To the south, Agios Nicolaos is busy but pleasant, To the north, Plaka is very small but offers good honest seafood restaurants; from there you can take a boat trip to Spinalonga Island which is worth visiting. More to the north alongside the northcoast you will find the little port of Sissi.. enjoy the good restaurants there.
Try also to visit the Lasithi site a bit more inland; takes you for a couple of hours in the car, but you will love every minute of it. Enjoy Greece

Congratulations! Enjoy!
Well, while there, make short trips in villages around and eat in simple restaurants and enjoy at some coffee shops!
Also, you can visit restaurants overlooking the lake of St Nicholas!
A place you should visit is the Dicteon Andron, the cave Zeus was brought up by the Kourites!
Also, very close is Spinalonga and other places!
All the best!
