I can tell you are a very astute person. Nothing has change except that most of the rockets that have been fire are gong into Lebanon and not Israel. But Israel just got tired of the Hezbollah shooting missiles over the boarder for the last several years. They were tired of the Hezbollah invading their country and kidnapping soldiers for prisoner exchanges. This has been going on for years since the last peace agreement for Lebanon.
So after the last Hezbollah raid into Israel that resulted in the capturing of a Israeli solider, Israel had enough of it and made the decision to destroy the southern strong holds of the Hezbollah in Lebanon.
So you see, the little fly got swatted. But you are right nothing will have changed. The hatred of the Muslims over the Jews is to deep to end now. It will be the Muslims that will end this war by destroying all of us... Just out of hate not love. Some peaceful religion.

Actually, something has changed. Israel is even more hated by the Arabs than ever before, having caused the deaths of hundreds of innocent Lebanese men, women and children in its bombing campaign, and the recent Middle East peace initiative is, at least temporarily, completely dead, as a result of Israel's extremely imprudent invasion of Lebanon. The only group to gain anything from this terrible conflict is Hezbollah because it has garnered more popular support and sympathy among Arabs, and has also shown the entire world that it is a political and military force to be reckoned with. Not only has Israel not gained enhanced security, nor the release of any kidnapped soldiers (as far as I am aware), but also it has demonstrated to the world that its military, at least on the ground, is not nearly as invincible and victorious as the propaganda suggested. Political pressure is mounting for an inquiry into the conduct of this misadventure by the Israeli government and, ultimately, this crisis could result in the political demise of Israel's current prime minister. In short, if there are any winners emerging from this conflict, it is not the Israelis or their American backers, nor the Lebanese, but rather Hezbollah and its allies, which will only be emboldened by its successes in the Lebanese War. Surely that cannot be good news for any of us who wish for peace in this troubled region.

It remains to be seen if Israel lays claim to some of the water from that river they're so intent on getting to...
Plus they drove out a lot of lebanese and destroyed a good bit of lebanon's infrastructure (ensuring hostilities in the future). This will damage lebanon's economy severely, and prevent democracy from taking a stronger hold there. Whether they did this on purpose, I am not sure, but it seems Israel is intent on living in wartime or preparation for wartime. They may say they want peace, but actions speak louder than words and they are quite provocative.., and every one of their "defensive" military actions expands their territory.

The same thing it's accomplished over the past several thousand years. Absolutely nothing. Idiots. They need to leave each other alone and let them live their lives the way they want. How hard is it to stay away from each other??

For your information, Israeli forces will not "retreat back to Israel". Since when have they listened to any body?
