ok... i'm so sad right now because i just gave away a rabbit (NOT those dwarf ones but the white with red eyes ones). the reason why is because i heard that they get pretty big like maybe cat size? i can't really afford to take care of a pretty big pet because i have bills to pay. so did i make the right decision to not keep the rabbit if it's true that these type of rabbits get pretty big? i hope someone here can tell me how big those these rabbits get i.e. compare it with other types of pets, how much they weight, how much they consume food-wise, etc. and if anybody knows when it starts to get big because right now it is still small, maybe a month ago i think? please can anyone help me? i feel really bad about my decision. if anyone can help i would appreciate greately!

If they are truly *New Zealand* - by the standard senior bucks (over 8 months) are 9-11 pounds; senior does are 10-12 pounds..ideal weights are 10 and 11 pounds respectively. Once grown they don't really eat much more than other breeds...you can figure 1 oz pellets per 1 pound body weight generally. Some 'easy keepers' take less.

Also by the standard - junior bucks and does (under 6 months) must be a minimum of 4-1/2 but under 9 pounds. Intermediates 6-8 months bucks must be under 10 and does under 11.

If yours is much smaller than that (or depending on age) There is a similar breed - the Florida White that looks similar to a NZW ony they are a maximum of 4-6 pounds with ideal weight 5 pounds as seniors. They, too, are all white with pink eyes.

Well, I had a NZ White before, he was about 10lbs. As big as a cat, but shorter. I don't know whether or not you needed to give him away. One rabbit is pretty cheap to care for, but I guess if you think cats are too big, then a full sized rabbit would be, too. Rabbit food is pretty cheap, and a 20lb bag is about $5-8, and will last you about a month for a fully mature rabbit. So..... I guess you did the right thing if that size animal is too big for you.

My New Zealand White (Patches) weights about 7 pounds! She is about the size of my Pomeranian. They really don't consume much food if they unlimited supply of straw! They are very much the same as Dwarf rabbits and really I wouldn't have gave him/her away! You should get another one, they are a pleasure to have around!

9-13 pounds. They are slightly larger than the Californians.
