u should be able to go through the veins on the top of your hand...I use to give IVs through them in the Army, it always worked as a backup

I've given over a gallon; I give double red blood cells every time. The last time I went in I had been poked wrong and they had to stop the machine mid-cycle; there was no restarting it after that, so they just took the blood I'd given as a single donation.

Yes, get plenty of water and keep vitamins in your system. Are you getting enough exercise? Working the upper body will enlargen your veins...

You should drink at least 48 oz of water for the week before you give blood, eat foods high in protien and iron: grapes, raisins, red meat, green leafy veggies. While I cannot donate, I can process the donations and do all the lab work on he blood. That is what we tell our donors.

It is best to eat a good meal, be well rested and drink plenty of fluids before you donate. You can stop flowing if you are dehydrated. It's important to drink plenty of water, juice and other non carbinated beverages.
