Hi,
I just read on here that a woman only lives 30 years post menopause!! I'm 24 and have had a hysterectomy - Surely this can't be right?? Could a nice doctor reassure me please as I'm abit worried now. Thanks xx

Does this mean I have a reduced lifespan?
Especially as the HRT aren't working.

I do not beleave that at all it may be that most women live only 30 years after menapausre but it it comes at 50 that leans 80 and as that is only average remember all those that servife to 100 or die for other reasons at 60 averages are meaningless

I'm afraid this puts you in to menopause earlier than you want to.but! it does not mean you are going to die earlier.you can live a full and happy life, sexually also.when a women has a full hysterectomy as you have had it puts your body in to the menopause cycle, and sometimes hrt does not work,i had mine 3 yrs ago,i chose not to take hrt because of the cancer that has been in our family.so don't worry you will be just fine.

No! No! Dont believe on all this unfounded theories!! Your doctor would have put you on small amount of hormones by this time. You can be as healthy as anyone after hysterectomy!! The only difference is that you have to be supplemented with a little hormone from outside.

Honey, you're OK,,,,,remember the old saw about "Figures don't lie but liars can figure"? Sure, if you went straight by the numbers with a menopause at 45, then add 30 years to it, you get 75,,,,which is stastically 3 years past the average age of 72, right?
So, remember- do the math

Some women die before reaching the menopause.....some live to be 110.....so you mean to say that they reached the menopause at 80??????
Chill will ya...when you're time is up...it's up......and there are too many old wives tales going around frightening the living death out of us!! lol
If you listened to them all....we'd all be dead by now!!

no. It's NOT (necessarily) true. My Mother had one 34 years ago, after the birth of my youngest brother (there are 5 of us) and shows no sign of keeling over or even slowing down. I said Necessarily, because i am NOT a doctor... If you want, you can E-mail me, and I'll give you her e-mail address.....

hi, not to worry at all.Hysterectomy is normal in order to save your life and since your age is still very young, consult your doctor to put you in HRT (hormone replacement therapy). These are pills which will hepl you to store back the hormone your body needs in order for normal body metabolisme and function.Believe me...not everybody dies soon...not that fast.My mom is taking the same pills and she still here with me.She aged 54!!!

Did they take your ovaries out? If your ovaries are still in there you are fine. If they did take them out then you should be on hormone replacement.
