We measure in inches but the only health problem for a short little lady (I am 5') is the heartburn, especially when baby is big ((I had a 9 pounder) and the tummy is shoved way up near your throat, (exaggerating a bit) causing really bad heartburn, which can be relieved with a bit of baking soda in a spoon mixed with tepid water. The less water, the better it works. Honey? Women were designed to do this exact thing, shoot the cavemen ladies didn't even have an obgyn, they just squated and grunted a lot. LOL! Sorry 'bout that! It is true though. Don't worry, if there are complications these days, there is usually a doc right there to do a cesarean. Hope this helps. LOL! :)

Small women can be powerful at birth. :-) I'm about 5'2" and weigh less than 100 lbs when not pregnant. I've had three amazing, powerful, uncomplicated, unmedicated births. Babies were 7 lbs 13 oz boy, 7 lbs 7 oz girl and 8 lbs girl.
Unless your girlfriend develops gestational diabetes, there is very little reason to believe that she would grow a baby that her body couldn't birth. There is NO REASON to assume she would need a c-section.
Looking at her size NOW tells you very little about what she will be capable of in labor. Towards the end of pregnancy and in early labor there are hormones released the loosen up the pelvis to make it easier for the baby to pass. If she stays active in labor and doesn't push flat on her back, that will also make it easier for her. Squatting is a wonderful pushing position because it opens up the pelvis something like 25-35% wider!

I am 5'1" and I have no health risks carrying my baby. I am able to have regular delivery unless I cant dilate enough to have the baby then i will have to have c-section. But the only time a women will have health problems with the baby is if they had them going into the pregnancy. Like my sister she is due in december and will have to have c-section cause of her health not being good good to start off with.

Height has nothing to do with the risk of childbirth. Short girls can have a large pelvis. Even if she looks small boned, her pelvis could be big enough. I'm 5'7, which is tall for a girl, and I still had to have a c-section b/c my pelvis was too small. She may or may not have to have one, but it has nothing to do with height.

Height has little bearing on how your hips are set. Talk to a doctor about the risks she might have. Most short women have no problems bearing children naturally.

no , not at all. even dwarfs get pregnant and give birth successfully. C - section is not based on the size of mother, but the position baby is lying in at the time of birth which makes easier or difficult to deliver.

I guess no, cause we filipina are truly short. Imagine averaging of 4'9" and the shortest mom I've met is 4'6. Plus the fact, Iv'e seen this in TV .. a 3'6" gave a normal delivery of her child....
But the best way to be sure, consult your doctor...

my wife is much more shorter than your gf. and very petite at that. yet she already delivered 2 kids. There is always risk in getting pregnant or in delivering babies... but there are great hospital and doctors around. just look at it this way... surely your gf is not the shortiest around... if you look at asians, they are much more shorter and yet they still have healthy babies and mothers.
