What is "bluetooth"?

I know it has something to do with hands free communication but not sure exactly what it means?

bluetooth is a communication protocol that allows for a small bandwith at distance of less than 10 meters.

The bluetooth chip costs a few dollars, so you can't put it in absolutely everything, but it's cheap enough to put it in most places.

I mean, right now, bluetooth is used for transmitting data from a cell phone to another one, or to a computer, or it can be used to make handfree kits (for cars) that will work even if you leave your phone in you bag/pocket. That kind of things.
There are even doorbells / intercomm that uses bluetooth to transmit the image/sound of the person ringing the bell to your appartment/house...
I belive there's a wristwatch company that made a bluetooth watch to serve as an extention for a cell phone (for people who never hear their phone ringing or want to talk into their watch instead of in their phone, like james bond)

Well, you can use it almost anywhere you want.

Bluetooth is generally a wireless technology just like a infra-red which can be found in many mobile devices but recently it can be found not only in mobile but also in devices like head set(Blue tooth head set), and watch as well. It allows you to listen musics normally without plugging it in the device and also transfer media files or any other to other devices without any problem. And it works on the basis of rays with short wave length so while transferring, both devices must remain within the range.

Bluetooth is a device / a software which you can transfer datas with in a limited area means around 100 meter. The main feature is you can transfer dats free of coast . and you can send all most everything . Pics, music, videos, softwares, Applications, Contacts , msgs Etc....

my sister has bluetooth on her phone. she sends and receives songs with her friends that also have bluetooth and she makes her own ringtones from her computer. i think it does a lot of things though and i'm not sure what else.

It is a mobile phone.
The ear piece is separate from the phone. you can wear the mobile phone on the ear.
