I am clearing some overgrown trees and I wish to shred the branches. I am getting conflicting info on when best to shred. Should I shred while the wood is soft with sap or should I let the wood dry?

The best time to shed branches is when they are in need of shedding.

I have a Lawson Cyprus and every so often it knocks on my door :

"Hey Jesus, I need you to shed me."

"Okay Cyp," I say, "I'll be out as soon as I'm done beating off."

Hope I could help.

It is best to shred the wood as you are removing it from the trees. The wood shreds easier when fresh.

Dry in the spring the branches of this tree tend to lean closer to the ground.

I would shred them as soon as possible. Dead wood takes more cutting than green wood. It would be kinder to your shredder. Also if you put the shreddings in a composter while they are green they will heat up and compost quicker.

just do it, there is not much difference in wet or dry wood.
