I think most people are to some extent. Superstition is based on incorrect attribution. It's thinking that because someone does something more than once, and a different phenomena occurs after each time that the original thing caused the second.

Since we're used to cause-and-effect, we sometimes falsely attribute two actions/events that really have no correlation, even if it *appears* they do, and sometimes strongly so. These beliefs can then be handed down to successive generations until they are believed without ever being witnessed.

The more ignorant people are wbout the world around them, the more likely they are to falsely attribure happenings, i.e., be superstitious.

But then again, we all do have our own little rituals, but I think this is more to bring the psychological comfort of predictability rather than being superstitious...

Yes I am! I know it's probably daft but it's the way I've been brouht up. I never walk under a ladder, put new shoes on a table, touch wood if I don't want something to happen that I've just talked about, pick a penny up and pass it on, never put up an umbrella indoors and if I spill salt then I throw some over my left shoulder but I absolutely hate when a mirror gets smashed cos thats 7 years bad luck ahhh I have enough bad luck without that. I know that it is all probably old wives tales but I still don't take the chance - haha we are an odd lot us humans.

I am supersticious because every superstition, take for example the arrival of a visitor when a fork fall while in a dinner, really happens.I also believe in bad luck, good luck and horoscopes because the movement of the planets affects our human nature.

No how ever this is more complex of an issue than you realize.

Superstitious is belief that there is an evil presence about you waiting for you to make some mistake.
The Pennsylvania Dutch are famous for HEX signs which are to keep away the bad spirits and bring good luck to you.
How ever if you ask them they will deny being superstitious...

Go figure???

Yes, I salute the blackbirds, don't walk under ladders, pick up a penny if I see one, don't put new shoes on a table, touch wood if I mention an awful possibility. I was brought up with superstition, and its become a habit.

I'm not really, but I won't ever tempt fate. I always salute a lone Magpie, avoid walking under ladders, and I 'd never in a million years buy a green car.
