No. Max Factor was a make up artist-check out the credits for I Love Lucy. You can find his stuff (though he is dead I believe) at drug stores for cheap. Max Factor eye liner=$8. MAC eyeliner=$20. Big difference. Yes they both have a M and an A, but thats all they share.

Sorry to dissillusion you folks that spend all kinds of money on dept. store brand make-ups, but all make-up IS the same.I am not sure whether Max Factor is the same as MAC, whereas, it comes from the same 'mother' company, but here are a few "cheaper" brands from the same company that are in the dept. stores. Loreal+Lancome, Ultima, Borghese+Revlon, Jane+ Estee Lauder.....the only reason you are paying more for the dept store brands is because of the packaging, the real estate that is paid in the store, and advertising involved. I know because I worked as a cosmetic manufacture's rep and for several of the high-end dept store companies. All make-up is actually made the same. You THINK because you are paying $18 for a Lancome mascara you are getting better mascara...try the Loreal cheaper versions (retail around $6-7) and you will be satisfied and impressed...and a little richer!

Do not LISTEN TO THESE GUYS! OH MY GOD!

Mac is excellent..... they are specialists in bright colours. All brands use different ingredients and its a case of trying stuff out until you find the right one for you.

Chanel is very good and for value for money Boots NO7 is nice. But seriously Mac is an exclusive range where as Max Factor gets flogged of in places like Ethel Austin.... Mac is great.. id recommend it any day.

My favourite isalso Elizabeth Arden.... very natural and gentle.

Max Factor was a makeup artist in the early studio days of Hollywood. I believe he either invented or perfected "pancake" makeup which has evolved into foundation today. "Max Factor" is a makeup brand marketed thru Drug Stores, while "MAC" is a high end dept store cosmetic.
