Because freedom to choose who you are in life is a scary thing. People prefer to accept the role their society gives them. Most people become lawyers or doctors because that's the wish of their parents or that's "where the money is", not because they themselves want it. It's so much easier to simply go with the flow, instead of swim against the current.
You are not born a woman or a man. You are not even born a human. All of those are labels, or roles, which are imposed on by the world and society. You can be anyone you want to be. But few people dare to pursue that.

We would all like to achieve our ambitions but sometimes you cannot just have, and do what you want.
You either dont have the money , the education, the looks ,the opportunities,or you have a sick mother , pimples, a lousy body, and absolutely no talent for anything
That is when , even with all the ambition in the world , you cannot ever get what you want! You must learn to set your sights a little lower and accept that which you can achieve , and if it is mediocre then so be it!!!!!

Everyone does what makes them happy. Ambition, for some people isn't on the list of happy things. To many people, laziness is happier than ambition. And, others might believe that life isn't about much more.
People don't care for ambition, because it's so easy to have instant gratification for happiness rather than a goal for long term success.

hi there!
It is not really people don't have ambition in life, its just that they are afraid of doing things that beyond their limit. They are afraid to get out of the box and explore things in life. Yes I agree with what you are saying, some people are contented with what they have. Contented on life that they know for a fact that they can do better in life. Yes, life is supposed to be about so much more. It is supposed to be doing good and sharing it with others so that it is not only you will earn more, extend you arms in reaching others in order to do more. God bless! =)

There are a number of basic types of people. It's a big subject to philosophers, theologians, and spycho-analysts. The one that helped me understand why this is so is a knowledge called the eneagram. The eneagram has been around for many many years, some even speculating that people from Asia discovered this knowledge thousands of years ago then later passed on to European monks in the middle ages. Do your research on the eneagram. It might help you know more about sourself as well.

I think I know what you mean by this question. Why don't people get out of their "comfort zones" and experience the challenges that life is really all about? Fear, mostly. Fear of the unknown is what plagues mankind. If most human beings had their way, they'd stay in the womb.

true, we should do more, have more... problem is, your efforts are limited to only what you can achieve... economically, financially, emotionally, spiritually, etc...
to be contented to all the things that you have and be satisfied to what you can achieve acts only as a consolation. the fulfillment of having it all is more like a dream especially to those who just strives to survive.... to those who have it, they can enjoy their fruits with gusto and exuberance... thus to those who don't, they are satisfied with what they can afford to gain thru their effort even if it's mediocrity to some...
the thing is, we can never have the things we want in life. one way or the other, something is still lacking, something still eludes us, and these are things which can make us feel fulfilled.
so what if i enjoy mediocrity? as long as i work for it, thru my efforts and thru my skills, unharmful and lawful, without sin... as long as i achieve it righteously, i'm satisfied of what i did achieve...

i don't have ambition so people call me a loser.
if ambition means that we have to try our best, fight against someone for something; i don't need it at all.
