I've played this game on my computer before, maybe about 2 weeks ago- is it possible that the cd is bad?

Not all new computers are actually *gaming* machines and many machines are offered with cheap hardware with the option to upgrade to better hardware for lots more $imoleans. For example, I recently got a relatively up to date laptop for normal database and word processing. For fun, I tested it... it does meet the barest minimum requirements to do the Sims 2 but flunks the tests for the expansions. So I gave it a try! Well, frankly the 2 minute or more delays on loading screens just gets very annoying. Machine also runs very hot. No go.

Here's what you can do. Run the system requirements test on your machine. http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/referrer/srtest
Select the Sims 2 game you are trying to run in the black box.

My best machine can pass all the Sims2 tests there in the green but when I take the test for OFB this machine flunks. The test tells me I need a faster CPU. The more intense the EP is, the harder it is on a system.

Good luck!

IF IT PASSES... do check to see where your system is weak. Sometimes a few upgrades can help.

Your pc might not be meeting the system requirements of the game. Or, if you had been using your pc for the internet, you might have downloaded an infection with it. Sometimes, programs don't work when a certain worm or virus is in your system. Try to scan for worms or viruses that might have infected your pc.

Might be a corrupted CD.. if not, try changing the resolution you select and make sure there aren't any other applications open that might be interfering with your game.

I had this problem with a game on my laptop - turned out it was overheating and shutting off. Try cleaning the screen over the fan and checking the heat sink, if your computer has one.
