The moon? Minerals and consruction materials....Mars? Life among other things. For those who believe its a waste of money consider this, space exploration has already provide leaps in the medical world alone! Being able to produce drugs to fight off killer diseases that cant be manufactured on Earth....lastly, the Earth wont last forever! If we want to survive we must explore! If we wait until the last minute to leave there may not be a bus waitin! The moon for example may provide an excellent place to launch vehicles making space exploration much cheaper! Who knows? We may even find a chemical up there that will help Jack grow some hair!

Humans seem to have a fundamental need to learn as much as we can about our environment. So we're seeking knowledge. Even if we don't have an immediate practical information, knowledge always proves useful in the long run. There is also always an undercurrent of power politics to space exploration, which was quite explicit during the Cold War space race.

To find out if there is life anywhere out side this Earth. These experimentations are carried out to satisfy the inquisitiveness to understand the nature in its vastness which can not be measured in terms of monetary gain or loss.

thats a really good question. i'm all for space exploration but exploring lifeless dead planets is pointless we need to put our efforts to finding a planet that might be of use to us. EX. mining it's ore. and who knows there might be some cures for some of our diseases.

Nothing! Just an excuse for asking for funds to do other non-related things! Or when something happens, they announced about another rocket on its way, to divert attention to this item and not the problem they are facing.
