On the first day at secondary school, our headmaster had us sat cross-legged in the assembly hall chanting "It all depends on me", over and over again.

When you were young, what phrase or remark influenced your future?

I'm pretty sure any phrase or remark which influenced my future, wasn't learned in school.

I'm both a libertarian and a transhumanist futurist. Back in the early 90's I discovered a philosophical movement that rather nicely fit my hopes of a future that was unlimited in both its freedoms and potential. This philosophy, extropianism, was once summed up with one pretty radical notion: "Neither death nor taxes are inevitable."

I have learned much about the concepts of personal freedoms and the fantastic possibilities possible in a naturalistic universe governed by rationality and science, and limited only by our imaginations, physical law, and our responsibility to do no harm to others.

No stupid phrase or slogan would ever influence me. I've never been a sheep and I never will be.
