They were someone who gave me a feeling of being respected, the indication that there were greater opportunities within the organization, understood that it is ok to have personal issues and were tolerant to some degree, provided feedback in an honest and respectful way so that I knew exactly where I stood.

This notion via TV "reality" shows that boss' are supposed to be hard nosed a$$holes is a disservice to those who will end up becoming managers.
