Their biological clocks tell them to crow and other times they just are set off by other roosters crowing.

The conventional wisdom is that a rooster crows as light begins to break in the morning.
However, roosters don't just crow in the morning. They crow because they hear other roosters crowing (you can get chain reactions). Other things that seem to set them off: to show that a certain place in the barnyard is their turf; to try and assert their own authority to another roo; hearing a hen cackle after it has laid an egg. I think the general rule for this is that a rooster crows any time it wants to - or feels the need.

I guess when the sun is up the rooster crows. From my experience, living on a farm for two months, roosters crow when they feel like it. Expect when the sun comes up. lol

at the retina of our eyes, we hav 2 types of light sensitive cells, rods, which respond to the intensity of light and cones which respiond to colours. The the retina of roosters has mostly cones and few rods. as the cones r sensitive to bright light only, the rooster wakes up with the dawn and sleeps by dusk. and i guess that when they get up is when they crow. so there u hav it, a rooster crowing at every dawn. ha, i thot ide never need 2 no this dumb 10th grade science

Roosters crow to warn away other males and to mark territority. The longer and more they crow, the longer and louder they're volunteering for the frying pan

Roosters are like so many other birds, they wake up as soon as the sun begins to rise and like other birds when they wake up they start singing (in their way) and they do it during all day.

let me tell you something funny...
i live in Malaysia. my friend's relatives came from Singapore. in such a big city like S'pore, they do not have many chances to get close to nature... they only read about roosters crowing in morning, but they never see a real rooster crow. so they were so happy to come to my hometown (a village). they said they wanted to see a rooster crow in the morning.
they were sooooo excited whole night, can't wait to see rooster crow. but the roosters crow whenever he likes, for whole night long. in the end these kids from S'pore couldn't get sleep whole night, waking up whenever rooster crow, but disappointed to see the sun not rising yet.
Funny~~~
Moral of the story : roosters crow whenever they like. don't depend on them to wakr you up. you will end up staying awake whole night.

roosters are ready for food hunt by morning. they have a bioclock which gives them the urge to go for food along with
family of birds i. e hens and chicks who donot crow like roosters.
hence it is a bell for them to start for work of food hunt.
