I have had them. they are like involuntarily tightening your abdominal muscles. like when you are exercising or defecating. it doesn't hurt very much. the first few times it a little weird because you are not sure what is going on. It may happen when you are doing any vigorous activity. make sure that if they get regular like timed to the minute and keep getting closer that you call your doctor. I had this happen with my first prego at about 7 months, and i was starting to dialate. they may want to check your cervix, if the contractions are regular. good luck!

Yes, I had them for a month prior to delivery. They felt almost like the wind was being knocked out of me or like the ground was falling out from underneath me. It felt like my entire uterus was tightening. They can be faint, and they can be stronger. Braxton hicks contractions will change in frequency and severity, wheras the "real" contractions that are leading to an immenent deliver will regularly get longer, and more intense.

Yes, braxton hicks contractions can be painful, more than anything though, they are unsettling. When the real ones come... YOU'LL KNOW :).

I started having braxton hicks about a week before I went into labor with both of my kids. They were painful enough that I needed to sit down. They felt like real contractions except that they weren't regular, and sometimes it felt like a steady throb. Personally, I think it's a sign that labor is going to be pretty soon.

I had them and they can be painful. When I had real contractions, they didn't feel any different. I didn't realize I was having real contractions all day and we didn't go to the hospital until late in the evening because my water broke. That's when the nurse told me I was actually having real contractions.

I had them, though I didn't have that many, they started coming about a month before I gave birth and they felt like mild cramps.

yeah I had them for the most part they don't hurt but ounce in awhile it would just be so hard that it would hurt and sometimes when you are further along they get more intense but this is completely normal.
