Your Information is not correct. What you have heard can not be applied to India as a whole. There are many regions , religions and many localized cultural practices . I have not heard of any such practice till now but then there are many things that I still do not know. Kindly be more specific in terms of what region or what area you are talking about where you heard this practice is happening.
