I only have one bedroom worth of stuff to move. And it's an in-town move.. any alternatives to Uhaul? Im in San Diego

You might be able to just rent a pick-up truck from any car rental place and use it for the day. If a friend has a truck, offer to buy them lunch and dinner that day in exchange for helping you move in.
Uhaul is pretty cheap so I doubt that any other moving company will give you a better bargain.

You can call ryder and see what their prices are. It will probably be exp. too. The cheapest way is to find someone with a pick up truck and offer them a few bucks to move your stuff.

all the rental companies are about the same in price.. i just used ryder to move and spent a week calling around. I am in cali also.

Friends with trucks or get yourself a ragtop! I moved my into a place using my ragtop-it took several trips though.
