I have just installed a backup hard drive into my new HP Pavilion a1532n computer. To gain clearance to install the hard drive, I unbolted the 4 captive bolts and moved the main fan aside. (there are two fans in rhe system. After the drive installation, I rebolted the fan. It is very noisy. the bolts threaded easily into the threaded holes on the computer wall. Did I tighten them too much? The wires are back where they were before I began the installation.
Any suggestions on how to quiet a very noisy fan?
If you do not know the answer but need the 2 points say hello. Serious suggestions please.
Thanks everyone.

The machine is 2 weeks old there is no dust nor wear in the fan. I do not see any obstructions but will check it again carefully in the morning. The sound is a steady roaring.

The fan makes a roaring sound that is quiet at times but gets loud when the computer is working harder, then quiets down again. the roaring is steady (not intermittent). The computer fan was just fine until I unbolted it and moved it a little in order to clear a path ofr the haed drive to be placed in in a bay. the fan and some bundled wire were in the way. The fan was not lifted nor jostled nor manhandled in any way. (just moved aside a few inches (5 o 6).a drop of oil is a good idea but I don't think that that is the problem.

Noisy in what manner? *IF* it sounds like the fan is vibrating because it's loose you likely tightened the screws too much and stripped the threads. *IF* that's the case you can simply go to a hardware store and by 1 size larger sheet metal or self tapping screws.

If the noise is of another nature it may be the bearings in the fan going bad and it just happened by chance while you were installing the drive. IF that's the case you'll have to buy another fan since you cannot repair\replace the bearings in the fan.

I'm not sure, when my fan started making loud noises it actually turned out to be the fan in my power supply, since it was so old. If you have a recently upgraded power supply, I would suggest making sure nothing is blocking or interfering with the fan blades. Sometimes a wire or ribbon can shift and may fall towards the fan depending on its placement.

Make sure that you put the pins back in the exact same spot they came from on the motherboard. This sounds simple, but it can be tricky. Something similar happened to me and I had accidently reversed the polarity of the wires by mistake. Be careful, because you might fry your motherboard and other components doing this. You should consult your manual of your motherboard just to make sure. There are several places to plug in fans on the motherboard. You might have mixed them up by mistake. Also, make sure any of the fan wires are not getting in the way of the fan. Hope this helps!

Your processor is getting hotter and telling your fan to % up! this isn't uncommon yet you may opt to close your laptop down and unplug it. Take the cover or panel off and gently suck the dirt out of all followers with your vacuum cleanser brush attachement. Be carefull! shop in ideas, the added application you run, the more durable your processor works!

Check the fan if there is any dust. Clean and oil it properly is necessary. Screw it well and put the computer on stable place.
If still problem, try changing fan.
