Because we don't care about him or don't believe him or don't accept him. By "we" I mean about 4.5 billion people.

Instead of giving a trite answer, I'm going to wax philosophical. Perhaps no one ever truly owns their own life. We are born without be consulted, we go to school because that's what our parents want, we work at jobs because we need to buy things to survive, and most of us don't control when we pass on. By that analysis, what do we have to offer? It sounds to me that God or the gods already have our lives in their possession.
It has been said that suicide is a grievous offence because we don't have the right to take our own lives, as it is against the will of God or the gods. Yet, if we truly are to give our lives over to God or the gods, then we shouldn't already have one foot already there.
Then again, perhaps there is nothing to give in the first place. What is a person but a continuous state of change, never being the same being at he or she was a minute ago, a day ago, a year ago, or when we were born. Perhaps we all are only rivers of spirit that flow from one point in time to another, constantly shifting and changing.
Jesus was a wonderful spirit. His teachings, when adhered to, form the basis of a harmonious life. Perhaps it is better to steer our lives to match his than try to give it over and hope that the result will work out. So perhaps the main reason that people do not give their lives away is because we are stuck with them and must direct them ourselves.

Jesus' message was that we are our own way out of darkness into God's light. Therefore, Jesus can help us on our way, but the owness is on us to be saved, that's called free will. Frankly, I don't believe it anyhoo, but after having ripped organized religion apart so many times in the past, I figure you guys deserve a little consideration... okay, that's enough consideration. Calvinist Protestantism, i.e. most Baptists and evangelical Christians, is based on the idea that there are only thirty six people on the earth at any given point who are the "Chosen Ones," those who are divinely appointed to go to heaven; everyone else is screwed. Problem is, we don't know who was given these divine rites, therefore we all must act as righteous as possible should we in fact be those chosen. You may have a direct connection with your god through prayer, but it most likely won't amount to a hill of beans. Good luck.

There are many reasons, no doubt, but I would say that the main reason that people do not give their lives over to Jesus is because they have no idea of who he is and how great and wonderful he is... But add on top of that that Jesus said, No man comes onto the Father except the Spirit draw him...

Here's an experiment: don't go to church for 6 months. Instead, do anything else. If you have to go somewhere to have some deep questions answered, I suggest the library. If you need community, may I suggest golfing, fishing, the mall, social clubs, volunteering. At the end of 6 months, I wonder what the results would be.
Personally, although it was motivated by an increasing alienation with what was being taught to me, I've found that being church free for the past year has only enhanced my life. 2 hours a week not wasted. :)

It is because of insufficient faith. Chriantianity is not a mind brainwashing, it is the innerself and from within. With mind control you can do most of thing, but Jesus Christ is coming from the heart and soul.

many have never heard of Jesus Christ. people are different and have different purposes and lessons to learn. There is no right answer to religious or political questions only opinions and ideas.

b/c they don't want to answer for their sins, they don't want to try something hard, and they want to have their own lives. but you can have a life and still be a christian, right? that and a lot of christians like to act all high and mighty and be judgmental about who goes to heaven and who doesn't. it's a real turn off. Jesus was about love, not separation, and christianity should be about accpetance instead of being a clique.

Good, positive response, Requiem42. Yes, many people mature and grow out of religion.

Becuz they want to believe something else is out there like aliens or something. Strange? Yep i definitely agree, they try to deny Jesus but, look at the evidence...there's heaps! Plus he's done lots of stuff for people. And when he doesn't, its because we're pushing ourselves away and don't want his help. So yeh thats my answer.
