Those "holes" are pretty common in pythons. As said before, it would have been best to identify it BEFORE you got it (unless you live in an area where you might have caught it in the wild), lest you end up with a burmese or reticulated python (2 of the largest snakes in the world)... You can check out the photo gallery, classifieds, or forums at http://www.kingsnake.com for an ID, or else shoot me an email with a picture and I can most likely identify it for you. snake_girl85@yahoo.com

Measure the beast, take a bunch of photographs form various angles. Then phone the local university that has a zoology department and ask for the herpetology professor. (or ask for him/her at the local natural history museum. Chances are they will know quickly or can look it up in their snake book library.
Another source of expertise is the local amphibian and reptile club. Some of the members know more about these animals than the professionals.
Good luck

It just MIGHT have been a good idea to find out what kind of python it was before you bought it. For all you know, you might have a baby anaconda in your home.
And a most species of pythons have those holes. They're heat pits for sensing the body heat of their prey. The holes don't narrow down it's species too much.

Post some pictures on http://photos.yahoo.com
Quite a few people on here can help identify your python. It is definately better to know your critter and do some studying/caresheets etc., before buying.
Most common python offered in the pet trade is the Ball Python, but their is quite a few different pythons in the pet trade.
Feel free to pm on ID'ing or care questions that you may have.
Good Luck
